Nathan has had a whole raft of first experiences this week. While he was still at the hospital, he saw his first NCAA college basketball semifinals, which he watched intently (not really) with his dad. He only saw a few minutes of the finals, though, mainly because his dad was disappointed by the sloppy ball handling and decided to go to bed. Besides the trip home from the hospital, he went for his first car ride on Monday, with a quick trip to the pediatrician for a checkup and a weight check. (He's still in the featherweight class, so he won't be taking on Tyson for a few more years.) It didn't take quite as long to get him into the car seat on the second try as on the first, but it's still an ordeal and totally redefines the concept of leaving early for an appointment. A live baby is significantly different than the squishy dolls that the fire department uses during the
car seat inspections.

As the week progressed, the firsts just kept on coming. On Tuesday, he watched his first American Idol, and I caught him texting in a vote for David Cook, in spite of the fact that his mom told him that David had an off night. He saw
Idol Gives Back last night and enjoyed it, except that he spit up a bit when Teri Hatcher sang "Before He Cheats," though that could probably be said for anyone who watched the show. Finally, he went for his first walk (or roll, rather) outside with his dad today, spending a while outdoors enjoying the sunshine that has finally poked through the clouds. And later today, as you can see, he donned his smoking jacket in preparation for a delightful evening at the Playboy Mansion.
On a final note, I heard from some of my readers (okay, two of them) that the links to the photo galleries are somewhat hard to find tucked inside the cornucopia of eloquent prose, so I added direct links on the righthand side. I'll be adding photos periodically, so check them out!
